Dave,
you should move to Auckland and try the summer series. Surprisingly at the last
event the girls did they came joint 2nd. I won't mention how I do when the girls
aren't around but it is closer to Emma's position than I would like.

cheers,
Neil

What a lovely slide, you have a wonderful family and wait, your Christmas Tree is so unique, you just gave me an idea for this year's Christmas. David, is it ok to use that Christmas Tree pic sometime on my blog?

The basic failing in the marathon was that a winter spent running on roads around Auckland harbour didn’t prepare me for an off road marathon with over 2100m of climbing. There was one stretch which was basically a scramble along a stream bed which took more time than it should have done.

Tee hee! You could come up with lots of new results listings based on GPS tracks: remove time spent running away from the control, total distance covered, …

What happened in the marathon then?

Dave,
It is a shame they don’t accept GPS tracks as being valid. I have been doing some local orienteering here (the Auckland summer series) and they are sufficiently friendly that they let you enter your own time. I did the first few and wondered why I was doing so well and then realised that I had the auto pause function enabled on my gps watch. After that it went rapidly downhill.

Still it is not as bad as the marathon I did on Saturday- one 5km stretch took
me 50 minutes!

Cheers,
Neil

I have been walking round the house for decades, usually from Combe gate. It was last October that I was stopped going across the bridge towards the house and again a couple of weeks ago. The guy looked like a paramilitary bouncer and I said I'd been doing that walk for longer than he'd been alive and intended to carry on without a ticket or a pass. He threatened to call security back up but I responded loudly that if he did they'd get a lot of bad publicity. The should add "ONLY PAYING VISITORS WELCOME" to their signs.

Seem s this is yet another scheme cooked up by a man called Hoy who is the manager. Since he took up his post Blenheim Estates have become a ruthless £$£ making machine. They tried to turn an ancient wood in Hanborough into a corporate adventure playground and were thwarted by massive local resistance. Now they are scheming to build on the only open field leading up to the wood which will destroy a valuable wildlife habitat and deprive people of a much needed open space to walk and exercise dogs in.

Recently they also closed off a field leading to the river near the Combe sawmill: this was a favourite place for locals to enjoy and the only safe place for kids to swim. Think we need to stand up and publicise this corporate, feudal bullying - its downright mean and nasty! Used to feel really blessed to live close enough to enjoy these beautiful places but now they have been totally spoilt - HATE BLENHEIM!!!

Hi Nat,

Was there a time before children?! Playing catch-up (the holiday seems like a distant memory now) but will try to keep the posts coming (if I had less of yours to read then I'd have more time to write some ;-). Christine took some photos of Emma trying on her school uniform yesterday - the beginning of the end!

Cheers,
Dave

Hi Dave

Glad to see some posts. Was wondering where you guys had got to but now I know - summer holidays. Fantastic photography. I especially love the one of Emma holding Peppa's hand - she looks so grown up and of course her on the Jumpin Jack Ride. And as for Duncan he looks pretty much at home on the train ride!

Have been recently converting our old pre digital photo albums into softcover books. Last night I came across the walk we did with you guys up the Crinkle Crags in the Lakes District. Those were the days when life didn't revolve around kids.....

Hope you're all well and keep the posts coming!

Hi Neil,

Yeah - the jockey wheel is pretty rubbish. Great for turning around but not so hot on the straight lines! I've just picked up a second hand tag-along for Emma's birthday in a couple of weeks. I know they do doubles but suspect they assume one child smaller than the other.

Cheers,

perhaps you should have told Emma that there were no princesses involved
but only duchesses? You need to get these matter of protocol correct if you ever meet the royal family ...

Dave,
You seem to have a very bent front wheel on your chariot (at least judging by
the picture). Surely one going straight up and down would work better.

Personally I am finding that even little hills are getting worse with the chariot as the girls get bigger. That plus the fact that Auckland is hillier than Southampton makes me wonder what the next step is going to be.

cheers,
Neil
