A couple of weeks back I managed to wipe an SD camera card having failed to copy across a few images. Nothing too disastorous but I thought I’d see if I could get them back. Top marks to Zero Assumption Digital Image Recovery which found 120 images on the card including the ones I’d deleted. Meanwhile, my brother, who made the rather more serious mistake of wiping a whole USB hard drive only to discover the last backup had failed, has good things to say about the freeware PC INSPECTOR File Recovery.

January 7th, 2007Anderwood Adventures
January 7th, 2007SOC had a district event at Anderwood today. After helping out at registration I went for a turn round the Brown course. Must have started reasonably well as I was in joint first place at the second control but my legs were really too tired to sustain that pace. The area is pretty runnable (give or take the occasional marsh) so running strength counts. Indeed, if you’re feeling weak then you just end up adding more distance trying to stick to the paths or contour around the hills when you should just peg it in a straight line.
Memorial Mud
January 6th, 2007It was the Hampshire Cross Country Champs at Memorial Park in Basingstoke today. As usual, my pre-race preparation was pretty dire. Spent the morning trying to buy some new shoes having written off my last pair of fell shoes at the OMM. Failed miserably (couldn’t justify a pair of XC spikes to myself) and ended up running in my orienteering shoes. Christine had declined to spectate in the pouring rain so I had to navigate my own way to the race. Finding the park was simple enough but finding somewhere to park was somewhat harder. One lap of Basingstoke later I eventually located the official car park only to be told that, even if I did get in, I probably wouldn’t get out again due to the mud! Consequently I ended up in a city centre multi-storey and ran back to the park.
Around Aldershot Race
December 30th, 2006Headed up the M3 this morning for the BAOC Around Aldershot Race. This was primarily a Mountain Bike Orienteering (MTB-O) competition but, due to the small matter of not having a mountain bike, I was left running the 18.4km Long-O. This turned out to be pretty much a 20km trail race. The controls were all pretty easy as they were reachable by the mountain bikers and there was a lot of dead running whilst you got out on to the Mytchett and Ash maps. Only there could you reap the benefit of being on foot by cutting a few corners.
Still, it was all good fun and I made it back just before the rain started in a time of 96 minutes. The results show that GG took a ‘mere’ 14 minutes out me although, in my defence, my slowest splits were those off the paths where I was being careful of my ankle. Rob Little looks to have a good strong finish, pushing me down in to third place.

All the twos
December 28th, 2006Santa arrived early with the latest release of IBM’s business integration products. WebSphere Process Server 6.0.2 and WebSphere ESB 6.0.2 were both released just before Christmas. There is a developerWorks article providing an overview of the new features. WebSphere Integration Developer 6.0.2 is also available as an update via the Rational Product Updater (as is the first ifix). Note that this will also bring the Process Server installation that forms part of the Integration Test Environment up to the 6.0.2 level. For the runtimes, make sure you also get the critical fixes.
