Configuring SIB J2SE client with SSL

If configuring the service integration bus J2SE client for SSL is a topic of interest to you then make sure you register for next week’s presentation from Rich Montjoy in level 2 service.

Dynamic JMS endpoints

Tuesday, July 15th, 2008

In an earlier post I promised an example of where service integration bus mediations still have a role to play in a WebSphere ESB environment. WebSphere ESB currently only supports dynamic endpoints on an import or callout (those that can be changed at runtime by a mediation flow) for SCA and web service bindings. In this post I’ll show how a service integration bus mediation can be used to add dynamic behaviour to a JMS binding.

Emma on a bike

Monday, July 14th, 2008

598Emma finally made it out on her first bike ride this evening. One of our neighbours had generously lent us an old bike and child seat ages ago but it took a while to get a helmet for Emma and then to get the seat attached to the bike (the bike it came off having a larger seat post). To offset her blue for boys helmet (they were out of the pink and neutral helmets in her size) Emma was sporting tights and skirt. Surprisingly (given her usual dislike of hats) Emma seemed to accept the helmet without too much fuss.

We were only out about 15 minutes as the spring return is locked solid on the front gears and I wasn’t going to tackle any of the local climbs on our first outing. It was long enough for Christine to get the vacuuming done which Emma hates. Emma seemed happy enough on the back of the bike although it is difficult to tell when she is tucked right behind you. She was burbling away to herself for much of the time although seemed to go quiet when we sped up. Not sure whether that’s fear or enjoyment! I don’t think we’re going to be planning any long trips given the state of the bike but it’s nice to have something else to do with her in the evenings and to know that it’ll be worth us getting her a seat when we get back to the UK.

Lastly, I would like to point out that the honking great 4×4 in the back of the photo is not ours!

Weekend in Oslo

Sunday, July 13th, 2008

595We’ve had a fairly quiet weekend at home in Oslo. Christine was sick on Thursday night (food poisoning we reckon although we’re not quite sure from what) and was still recovering. We just went in to town yesterday. We started out at the playground in Aker Brygge although Emma largely ignored this and just walked her buggy up and down instead. Next stop was the tourist information office in the hope that they would help us decide on the route for our summer trip to the west coast. Strangely enough, although very nice, they couldn’t really help in our general indecision between having a relaxing few weeks and cramming in the sights. We walked back home via Frognerparken as the sun was shining by this point.

Deployment environments during profile creation

Tuesday, July 8th, 2008

Today I was trying to work out why a WebSphere ESB customer wasn’t seeing the default deployment environment created when using manageprofiles to create a Network Deployment topology. They had specified the appropriate topologyPattern and topologyRole parameters. It turned out that they were missing the ndtopology option which should be set to true. This was perhaps excusable as the help for the template doesn’t list this option and even the InfoCenter documentation manages to get the case incorrect. As on previous occasions, I spotted this omission by running through the graphical Profile Management Tool and comparing the parameters that it generates in the invokeWSProfile entry near the top of the logs/manageprofiles/<profile_name>_create.log file.

Fishy scales

583The rain continued today so where better place to go than an aquarium? This one is down on the east side of Oslofjord at Drøbak and contains examples of many of its residents (the fjord that is, not Drøbak). It’s not all that large but it kept Emma amused for a while even if only climbing up and down the ramps and stairs! The building also lays claim to being the world’s only lutefisk (dried cod tenderized in lye) museum which mercifully seemed to be largely tongue-in-cheek. It wasn’t really the weather for heading out to Oscarsborg festning which guards the narrows of the fjord. Instead, we settling for a short walk around the town (undoubtedly more picturesque on a sunny day) including an obligatory stop at the Christmas tack shop (otherwise known as Julehuset) and a very nice lunch at the bakery.

Marathon Spectating

Saturday, July 5th, 2008

580We headed east to Rømskog this morning for Christine to run in the Unionsmarathon. After watching her start, Emma and I played in the sunshine on the grassy start/finish area, watched the kids run their races in some smart looking numbered vests, and then drove off after the marathon runners. We managed to see Christine a couple of times before reaching the Swedish border across which the hire car wasn’t allowed to go. Emma and I therefore stopped for lunch and then had a wander around the lake shore (only disturbing the one "optionally clothed" local!) before heading back to the finish. Christine finished in a good (given the terrain/climb) time of 4.5 hours and as second lady. It sounds like it was a bit of a struggle to get round but she seems to be recovering well afterwards. Just a shame she didn’t finish 10 minutes earlier so that we didn’t have to watch from the car whilst sheltering from the thunder and lightening!

Busy week

Friday, July 4th, 2008

577A quiet week on this blog generally means a busy week in real life and that was certainly the case over the past seven days. My brother was over visiting last weekend. We left him to do most of the tourist attractions on his own (indeed, he did a few that we haven’t yet) but we joined him for a couple of trips out as Christine has already reported.
