Score at RVCP

366SOC was hosting a schools event at Royal Victoria Country Park yesterday afternoon and the courses were left out for others to use them in the evening. Christine took Emma around the yellow in her pram whilst I did the score event. Punching (and map copying technique) was all important as it took me just 29 minutes to get round the 23 controls. The two loop format worked well as it meant you got a reasonable run without resorting to controls in the far-flung recesses of the area. The country park also has sufficient features to mean you still have to keep your wits about you.

I managed to finish 15 secs behind you after making a 30 sec mistake on the penultimate control……I obviously should have distracted you for longer on your map changeover!

I really like the Park-O style (its more about the running, but there’s enough map-reading to distract you from the distance you are actually covering); it was a shame not more SOC’ers could attend.

You mean I could have taken it easy and spent another 14 seconds out there?! Without trying to cause any offence, I think part of the problem is that many SOC members don’t move fast enough to make orienteering on that sort of area at all challenging i.e. they can always navigate faster than they can run.

    I’m offended!
Unlike you, I am physically incapable of running 3 days in a row at the moment (was I ever?!). It was partly a choice between the RVCP event on Monday or the BAOC event at Bulford yesterday where I messed up 2 of the Micro-O controls through running faster than I could navigate!

If you want to include yourself in the ‘many’ Mike that’s up to you! Sounds like you shouldn’t though. Thought I’d be pushing my luck going to Bulford and the RR10 (and not just with my fitness!) but Longmoor is in the calendar for next week.
