Another run from Canadian War Memorial on Tuesday night. I wasn’t on top form which I put down to my cold/ear infection. Not even sure whether I should have been running but it was a nice evening with a warm sun offsetting a cool breeze. Decided not to go to the pub as a) I had lots of work to do and b) I’m not sure alcohol would mix well with the paracetamol and anti-biotics!

Trailing along
Thursday, May 13th, 2010Hard of hearing at Harvester
Monday, May 10th, 2010Good turnout for underpasses
Thursday, May 6th, 2010With the change of month we moved to a new venue for Tuesday night’s run: Canadian War Memorial near Bolderwood. There was a good turnout which befit the sunny skies. The route was the (eastern) two underpasses clockwise. I declined to run any of the optional extras, partly through tiredness from the weekend and partly due to the onset of a cold.
Two seconds at the British
Monday, May 3rd, 2010Fairwell to Fritham
Thursday, April 29th, 2010Tuesday was our last run of the month and, as is tradition, we ran the route that almost everyone can do with their eyes closed: the Six Ponds. It was a lovely evening and a shame that we didn’t have a bigger turnout. In particular, we were treated to a fantastic moon on exiting the pub. It was slightly odd to be joined by someone who we used to coach orienteering to as a junior, haven’t seen for about 4 years, and is now a student at Southampton. Needless to stay his young legs fared him well!
Summer Series moves to Southampton
Saturday, April 24th, 2010We headed in to Southampton this morning for the second of SOC’s Summer Series on the Common. I took Emma and Duncan round the yellow course again whilst Christine ran but this time I also got to have a go. It was slightly disappointing that although, as promised, it wasn’t the permanent course, it did use the permanent course controls so I had been to them all before. I made the mistake of trying to take the direct route through the green to control 6 but otherwise it was just a question of trying to run as fast as I could. It was good fun though and we were joined by Christine’s parents for a picnic afterwards. We’d made the mistake of promising Emma the paddling pool which doesn’t open for another week but she seemed happy enough in the playground.
Not the Bramble Hill Hotel
Wednesday, April 21st, 2010This week’s Tuesday night run was described to me as the “Neil’s Wedding Run”. It was meant to take in the Bramble Hill Hotel but somehow we didn’t quite find it and ended up retracing our steps along an admittedly very nice ridge. We did, however, manage to regain our intended route later and hence, had it really been the prelude to Neil’s wedding, to the point where we would have received our champagne. We had to make do with beer from the Royal Oak instead!
Sharing sister
Saturday, April 17th, 2010I think it’s fair to say that Emma isn’t all that great at sharing things with Duncan. With a little persuasion she’ll give him one of her toys but when you’ve got your back turned she’s quite likely to rip it back out of his hands! She’s also all to ready to be his morale guardian, sweeping anything out of his reach lest he might put it in his mouth. This, combined with the fact that Duncan is, on average, still waking twice in the night (if you count 6:30am as night time), meant that it was with some trepadation that we moved Duncan’s cot in to Emma’s (now the children’s) room.
